Managing Challenging Behaviours

Managing Challenging Behaviours Training Course

Disruptive behaviours in the workplace can be challenging and frustrating for any manager or team leader. They can disrupt team communication which can lead to low morale and lack of participation by other team members.

Managers and team leaders have a duty of care to their team to intervene and resolve issues that arise because of challenging behaviours. This highly interactive course looks at various scenarios and asks “What is challenging behaviour?”, “What techniques do Leaders need to diffuse challenging situations?” as well as how and when a Leader needs to step in and intervene.

Through hands-on activities and practice exercises, delegates learn how,

  • To have an understanding of why some people are “difficult”
  • To be able to identify different types of behaviour
  • To understand their own communication style and how that might contribute to “difficult” situations
  • To identify ways to defuse, deflect or deal with situations where people are being difficult
  • To be able to state their own position in an assertive, non-confrontational way
  • To have identified coping mechanisms for themselves.
  • Different styles of difficult behaviour
  • Exploring methods to deal with the different styles
  • Addressing the problem rather than the personality
  • Assessing your own communication style
  • Win/win outcomes
  • Looking from the other person’s perspective
  • Body language
  • Using questioning techniques
