Performance Coaching can be a powerful way of motivating staff through empowerment, realising ambitious business goals and developing natural potential that may otherwise be hidden. Operated at a superficial level, however, it achieves relatively little and at worst can have completely the opposite effect.

Performance Coaching is not about alienating members of your team by highlighting their mistakes or performance deficiencies. Nor it is an opportunity for you to show how much you know about a given subject. It is about working with members of your team (peers and seniors also) to help them identify and solve performance related development needs and associated work-based challenges thereby improving the effectiveness of individual team members and the team as a whole.

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the key elements of the GROW coaching model and demonstrate how it can be applied successfully in the workplace;
  • Explain why having belief in the potential of others is key to the successful application of performance coaching;
  • State the boundaries that exist between the four key leadership roles of coaching, mentoring, counselling and performance management and how and awareness of these boundaries can enhance your role as a leader.
  • Demonstrate effective coaching conversations.
