We ran two concurrent leadership sessions for a new client. Same material, same environment, same numbers of delegates, all operating at the same level of leadership. We trained high quality material, as always, and gave each group the same delegate experience and learning. However, at the end of each session we challenged the groups in different ways.
Group one were asked to reflect on the day and the models they had been introduced to and practiced. They shared this feedback with the group as a whole and said what they felt they could put into practice between today and the next module in a month’s time. They all had good ideas of what they could implement and felt comfortable and competent in doing so.
Group two were challenged differently. They were asked to reflect in pairs on what they had learned. They then shared this with the group and were challenged by the facilitator as to the ‘how’ and ‘why’ they would implement the things they felt they could do with their teams back in their business. We then asked them in their pairs to share a diary invite with each other to reflect on how this was going at the half-way point between these two modules and asked them to share their experiences.
We can’t wait to compare their experiences in the next module in October and to see whether the additional challenge from their facilitator and the benefit of a ‘buddy’ system where they hold each other to account has made a difference, or whether the self-managing approach provided the best outcomes for their teams.
